New Spastic Information

Blinking is for wimps

This is the part where I give you the latest late-breaking story about America's favorite band, Spastic Moose.
Well, here's the scoop:

You may wish to note that the updates are in reverse-chronological (otherwise known as "chronillogical") order. This accounts for the fact that we seem to be making anti-progress as the updates proceed.

Updates are written by Tom, so references to "I" mean "Tom".

Update 6.23.98

Hey, it's Summer 1998! We've been working on new albums, even though Tom is working full time for The Man now. Tom is getting a super kick-ass computer system, which will probably not be used to make Spastic Moose music. CDs should be mixed and made soon, and you should buy them!

Update 1.11.98

Agh, what can I say, Spastic Moose is on Hiatus still. We are several hundred miles away from each other, and shipping recording equipment is inconvenient and difficult. During the summers we will probably be able to finish lots more stuff, but in the meantime Spastic Moose is producing rather sparsely (what, only two albums this year?). Marc is currently preparing to master the rest of our albums onto CD, so they should soon all be available... as a by-product, expect more MP3's soon.

Update 6.10.97

Yesterday Marc and I graduated from High School. Now that summer has started, we will hopefully be making a lot more music and Tom will be getting a lot more free movies. The 5th album is well underway! Sultry Pantry rocks. Sound Clips are finally working, and they are in much better format (MP3) now! Check them out!

Update 4.26.97

Audat was released this week, and has received much critical acclaim! The album is available on cassette or CD. Unfortunately I haven't figured out how to get the Audio and Data correctly on a CD together, so right now CDs do not have the Spastic Moose Interactive Hybrid Thingie. But they have the music, and a better cover, so that is OK!

Update Sometime in February (I am not wearing my watch)

The way the song list goes, there is about 7 minutes of blank space on the first side of "Audat". To Preseve Album Continuity, we've been working on an Intermission. Most of it has been done on the computer, painstakingly pieceing together drum beats on a digital sound editor. The good: It sounds really neat, quite unlike anything we've done before. The bad: It is genuinely irritating to do, and it is taking forever. But! We finished the computer part yesterday. So we are happy. Also, there would be new Audio Samples, but the song I intended to put on here ("Under The Covers Tonight") happens to be the only one which Marc mixed poorly and which we are going to redo. So stay tuned. Marc's yoghurt machine is neat.

Update 1.26.97

Yesterday marked the first time we heard our stuff on CD, albeit a recordable-cd one. It makes a big difference in the sound quality over a 3rd-generation tape, that's for sure! Marc is upset about the unanticipated space inbetween songs (about 1 second), but Tom doesn't mind it at all. Tom is back to work on The Spastic Moose Interactive Thingie for CD copies of the new album (which will be offered), even though we're thinking now that we won't be making Renegade on CD.

Update 1.13.97

Marc finally got his ass in gear and started mixing the songs for "Audat" onto the computer so that we can make the Master CD. They sound good! Perhaps more importantly, we have finished recording all of the music for the album, and now we finishing up our booklet -- no release date has been set, but you can still get your pre-orders in! Also, Marc's mom screwed up and his dad drove me home, which was uncomfortable.

Marc had serious problems when he was younger.

Update 1.3.97

Hmm, we haven't recorded anything in quite a while since Tom has been on vacation. The title of the 4th Spastic Moose album is going to be "Audat". Also, be on the lookout for our albums in CD format, available soon!

Update 11.30.96

We are very close to finishing our fourth album, which does not even have a name yet! Marc reports that this is the longest time we've ever spent on an album, which either means that it is very high quality or that we are just becoming less efficient. I vote for the former.

The Phantom Whistle Solved (maybe): The phantom whistling seems to be distortion on the piano track due to Marc's equalization. We turned down all the other tracks and it clearly appears on the piano track only. It sounds quite dandy, though. Now, read Marc's Angry Rebuttal.

Update 11.13.96         The Phantom Whistle

So we recorded Tom's Super-PopTM We Don't Eat Glass, at least the music part, and upon listening to it, Tom hears this mysterious whistle. Confirmed by Tom's brother Mike, there is a whistle harmonizing quite well with the music. This is puzzling because there was originally not a whistle in the song, nor did we play one when we recorded it. Here are Tom's current theories about the whistling:

Update 10.23.96

Tom's computer has been broken for months so the Spastic Moose web page has been at a standstill. Well, no longer! There is lots of Spastic Moose news, but the truth is, it isn't exciting any more, so I don't even feel like putting it here. I guess the major thing worth noting is that we are nearly finished with our next album, Tom got his CD-recorder and we are in the process of mastering Renegade on CD, and the Ultimate Band List (~) finally fixed their page so now we have a card there.

Update 7.16.96

Tom started briefly working on a Spastic Moose Interactive Activity Book to be included on the Spastic Moose Greatest Hits hybrid CD. Marc is going to go blow all of the Spastic Moose FundTM on brushes (for the drums), which Tom reluctantly agreed to.

Update 7.13.96

Spastic Moose was supposed to be meeting today to record some music, except Marc was in some other state. He neglected to tell Tom this.

Update 7.12.96

Tom has gotten his computer back from the shop and is making money like mad at the Eli Whitney Museum, and so he will be getting his CD recorder soon. And you know what that means, Spastic Moose fans... SPASTIC MOOSE CDs! And oh yeah, the new album is proceeding nicely, and when Marc had his wisdom teeth pulled out, the dentist didn't make any mistakes and give him holes into his sinuses (as the doctor mentioned was a distinct possibility). He also did not lose any wisdom as far as either of us can tell. All of this is good news.

Update 6.9.96

Wow, COOL SPASTIC MOOSE NEWS: The legendary Sonic Youth has heard us. Awright! Marc ripped off something from one of their songs ("Expressway To Your Skull") for our next album, and we weren't sure whether to call it a cover or not. So we put it on a tape, and sent it to Lee Renaldo. Saturday, Marc got a postcard reading "Hey- It don't sound like EXPRESSWAY to me - call it yr own + go!  Regards - Lee/SY". So we're calling the song "Yr Own + Go", on his recommendation. Feeling jealous? Any other BIG BANDS want to hear us too? Just write ImightbeTM@aol.com!

Update 5.24.96

Everything is done and The New Regime was released on Tuesday. Sales have hit an all time high, however Marc still insists that he gets all the money. The albums are beautiful, and you should all buy one. And, if you don't trust us, you really ought to go to the audio clips page!

Update 5.3.96

The booklet is all together, and it's at the printers right now. Marc has just about finished making the master tape and tapes will be copied very soon. The release date has almost been set. America -- indeed, the world -- sits on the edges of their seats in anticipation.

If you would like to hear a pre-album audio clip of our hit single (ha!) "Spastic Moose Is Always Cooking", you can go to our audio clips page!

Update 4.23.96

We've finished recording The New Regime, and we are nearly done putting together the booklet. We also have compiled a tentative (no, definite) list of songs for our Renegade CD, and I've done some artwork for the CD cover or somewhere.

In other news, Spastic Moose did not appear on The Tonight Show.

Yet.

"I guess the thing I've most commonly heard about Spastic Moose is that Tom knows nothing about making Man's MusicTM. And I guess that's why he's in there, making utter crap, and I'm in here making Man's MusicTM."
